Service is our faith in action
"My parents have been super big influences in my life and have really taught me how to love people and they just really embody Christ, I think. I have three other siblings, two older brothers and an older sister. My older sister is adopted and we adopted her when she was sixteen, which is super crazy. My parents knew her and her mom had passed away and then her dad passed away in a car accident as well so she didn’t really have anyone. My parents just kinda took her in and it’s just something that I think is so inspiring and I don’t know if I would be able to do the same. We’ve always been involved in my church and have taken people in for small periods of time who just needed a place to stay, and it’s always been cool because I got to see my parents’ hospitality. I was also close with my grandparents from both my mom and dad’s side. The ones from my mom’s side have been volunteering at this place called City Team in Portland for 20 years so I was born into serving which is a big part of my life now and what I want to do with my life. I have gone downtown and given meals to homeless people and have spent birthdays serving. I think action is so important and that’s why I’m so passionate about service. I think service is our faith in action and they have just showed me to take that action and not be afraid to fail.”
