It made me think "Okay, is this okay?"
“My sister is the most influential person in my life. Every time I have a problem or a conflict, I always think what would my sister do? She’s so strong-willed. She always questions and challenges; she never accepts things as they are. It took me out of my comfort zone watching her. I was able to see how she was thinking. It made me think “Okay, is this okay? Do I need to change this? Should I accept this? I learned to challenge the norms. I think that’s important for the change that I am trying to make in the world. I have been passionate about people and equality most of my life. Growing up in Portland, I saw a lot of low-income neighborhoods. I lived in the suburbs so when I traveled back into the city, which we did every day, you see this gap. I have opportunities that other people would like to have and it’s out of their control. It is not okay. I want to make sure people have what they need. Not just the necessities, but that they have the opportunity to choose what they want.”
