I want to do something that makes me happy

At SPU, my happy place is probably down by the canal. Anywhere I am can genuinely sit, read, and listen to music, I’m happy. But actually, I could talk about theatre all day. It’s what I’m passionate about. As soon as a show is over, I want to be back in there. I work in the shop, where I work with wood and build sets for shows. I look forward to it every single day, and I recently got hired as lead carpenter. I'm excited because all next year, I get to be in the shop everyday. I take the canal back, my happy place is the shop. I have to be honest. I could sit in the shop for the rest of my life and work, and I would probably be content. I love working in the theater. There's this one room on campus, it's at the very top, the third level. I had a class in there last quarter, and everyone says, 'I hate climbing to the third floor,' but I love it. You climb to the top and there are these beautiful windows. You can view the entire loop from there, and it's gorgeous. I just love the theater building in general, but I definitely think that I look forward to going to the shop every single day. When I don't go there I miss it. I love art and theatre, and while my family loves that, sometimes they want me to choose to do something realistic even if it isn’t my passion. But I know I want to do something that makes me happy, because no matter what, that’s what I’m going to be doing for the rest of my life. You can find a way to make a living, but always do what makes you happy rather than settling for what seems the most responsible.
