People are what make life interesting

From looking at me, people usually conclude that I’m unfriendly or unapproachable. They would never guess from looking at me that I actually really love people. Growing up with a sister with down syndrome, I have learned to value all people and to respect them as human beings first. People with disabilities play a huge role in society that often goes unnoticed and extremely unappreciated. Witnessing this while growing up, I make it a point to never neglect anyone in the same way, no matter their walk of life. People are what make life interesting and worth living. I love connecting with them and learning of their individual and unique stories. When I meet new people, I want to talk about anything and everything to learn more about them; who they are, where they come from, and how my first impressions may differ from their reality.

My passions in life include photography and talking to people. I love to connect with new people and give them a chance to share a piece of themselves, whether it’s through a conversation or through the lens of a camera. I am grateful for this outlet I have that allows me to have that level of contact with others. What I value most in life are my relationships. I wouldn’t be the person that I am today without my sister. Growing up with her has not only taught me the value of compassion and empathy, but also the strength of the support that comes from your connections to people. My family, friends, and community are the cornerstones of my identity, and I know my life would be so bleak without them.
