I have had to remain strong
Transferring from a community college in California to Seattle Pacific University has been a big change in my life. From living at home, to living in a new state with five other girls in an apartment has been a big shift. Through this change, I have had to remain strong, which I have had to do for a good portion of my life. Growing up, I always felt that I had to be the glue to hold my family together; I put my needs last and made sure everyone else was happy and taken care of. I had to be strong. This has carried into my friendships. Even when so-called friends mocked me and hurt me, or when I was bullied in my teens, I stayed strong and laughed along like it didn’t bother me. I never wanted to be perceived as weak or insecure.
Growing up, I participated in theater, which helped to foster a persona of confidence. It helped me to be a more outgoing person. I enjoy making jokes that make people laugh, and to have a good time. I care about people, which is why I want to go into counseling, specifically to aid children or families. I went to counselors when I was younger and I felt it to have a positive impact on me, and I hope to help others in the same way.
